On September 5, 2025, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia celebrated a memorial service for the ever-memorable Metropolitan Nikodim (Rotov) at the house church of the working Patriarchal residence in Chisty Lane in Moscow.
His Holiness's spiritual mentor, Metropolitan Nicodemus, died on September 5, 1978.
Before the beginning of the divine service, His Holiness addressed the audience with a Primatial address.
"Today is the anniversary of the death of Bishop Nicodemus, Metropolitan of Leningrad and Novgorod, an outstanding hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church," His Holiness said in particular. — I was the personal secretary of Metropolitan Nikodim. I saw him during worship services, during personal prayer, while traveling, and at his desk, where he spent most of the day if there were no services during those days. He worked in a way that, from the point of view of even the slightest concern for the human body, it is impossible to work."
"He wasn't afraid of anything. He possessed truly phenomenal abilities and, moreover, an undoubted vision of the future. He did all this because he was convinced that times would change, and the Church should be ready for these new times," the Primate emphasized.
"May the memory of the ever-memorable dear Bishop Nicodemus be carefully preserved in our Church and our people. And I ask everyone, those who knew Vladyka and those who did not, to remember him in their prayers after my words. And now let's pray," His Holiness the Patriarch urged.
Liturgical hymns were performed by the choir of the Don Stavropol Monastery under the direction of Pavel Muntyan.
They prayed during the service: Bishop Alexy of Ramenskoye, Personal Secretary of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill; Protopresbyter Vladimir Divakov, Secretary of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia for Moscow; clergy of Moscow.
