In the course of the past decade, 111 Orthodox churches with parish halls and auxiliary structures have been built in Moscow, while nearly three hundred more church complexes are presently under construction.

According to Mr. Vladimir Resin, supervisor of the church construction program in Moscow and top advisor to the City Mayor, construction of new Orthodox churches is planned on the basis of one church per 25-30 thousand inhabitants with the maximum walking distance of about half a mile. Most of the new churches have a unique outlook, becoming and architectural dominant of the surrounding area.

Each year, residents donate between 1.5 and 3 billion rubles for the new churches. The cost of construction varies from 50 million to 850 million rubles, depending on the capacity, engineering, territory and materials used in construction. Nearly all the materials used in the construction of Orthodox churches in Moscow are manufactured in Russia.
