On September 17, 2026, the Central Clinical Hospital of St. Alexy, Metropolitan of Moscow, together with the Ivanovo-Voznesenskaya Diocese, opened a classroom where nurses and volunteers will receive professional training in caring for seriously ill and injured patients. After training, they are expected in hospitals and hospitals in Ivanov and the Ivanovo region. The classroom is located on the basis of the spiritual and educational center of the temple of the Prophet of God Elijah.
The consecration of the new classroom was performed by the secretary of the Ivanovo-Voznesenskaya Diocese, Priest Georgy Vityazev, and the head of the diocese's social department, Archpriest Viktor Makarenkov. The event was attended by Maxim Komissarov, the head of Ivanovo, Ekaterina Kuzmina, Chief physician of the Shuisky Central District Hospital, Yulia Tovstaya, head of the St. Luke's branch of St. Alexy's Hospital in Pereslavl-Zalessky, and Tatiana Rein, Deputy head of the St. Alexy's Hospital Training Center for Regional Development.
"Everyone has been waiting for this event. The opening of a classroom at St. Alexy's Hospital provides an opportunity to revive the traditions of the sisters of mercy in the Ivanovo-Voznesenskaya Diocese, which have been lost in our country since the revolution. We want no one to be left alone with their illness and pain," said Priest Georgy Vityazev.
Yulia Dmitrieva, a teacher at the St. Alexy's Hospital Training Center, had previously conducted 11 courses of study in Ivanovo. During this time, a sisterhood of mercy was established here. Nurses and volunteers help in the care of seriously ill patients of the Ivanovo City Cancer Center. "New equipment was brought to our classroom — functional beds that you need to be able to work with, trolleys, phantoms, and care supplies. All this allows us to practice important techniques and come prepared for patients," said Yulia Dmitrieva.
The training classroom in Ivanovo is equipped with everything necessary for professional training with the support of the "Christian Charity" charity Foundation.
The training center of St. Alexy's Church Hospital has been training specialists in the care of the seriously ill since 2018. During this time, more than 9,500 volunteers and nurses have been trained. The training center is located in Moscow, and also conducts field courses and opens training classes throughout Russia. The class in Ivanovo has already become the 27th.
