On June 3, 2026, on the day of the celebration of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God, the Divine Liturgy and prayer service with the akathist to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker were celebrated in the Assumption Cathedral of the Trifonov Monastery in Kirov. The divine services were led by Metropolitan Mark of Vyatka and Sloboda.
His Eminence was co-served by Bishop Paisii of Yaransk and Luz, Bishop Vsevolod of Urzhum and Omutninsky, and numerous clergy.
The liturgical hymns were performed by the choir of the Vyatka Diocese under the direction of Regent Yulia Skopina.
During the divine services, the pilgrims of the Velikoretsky procession prayed, who gathered on Vyatka Land to make a multi-day procession following the image of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker to the place where the icon was found — the banks of the Velikaya River.
Hieromonk Nikolai (Belev), dean of the Trifonov Monastery, delivered a sermon to the faithful.
At the end of the Liturgy, a moleben with an akathist was celebrated in the Cathedral Square of the Trifonov Monastery in front of the Velikoretsky image of St. Nicholas.
Governor of the Kirov region A.V. Sokolov addressed the pilgrims with words of farewell and congratulations: "For many centuries, the Velikoretsky procession has been a symbol of the unity of the Vyatka land, one of the greatest Orthodox feats in the entire Russian world, when tens of thousands of people, not under compulsion, but voluntarily perform feats for the benefit of our land and for the glory of the Lord.. I would like to wish everyone pure thoughts and goodness on this festive day, and may the road be within our strength. Happy holidays! Have a good trip!"
Metropolitan Mark addressed the faithful with an archpastoral address: "Dear fathers, brothers and sisters, before the start of the procession, I would like to mention a few points from the Holy Scriptures. The Lord says that "where two or three are gathered in my Name, there I am in the midst of them" (Matthew 18:20). In another place, He says: "Search the Scriptures." And He also says: "Know that the Lord is good."
"I wish all of us that this year, gathered here in the holy land of Vyatka, we partake of this grace of God, and experience how good the Lord is, remaining in unity in Christ. And they joined in this grace of God, and gained the experience of direct communication with God. At that time, and under the patronage of St. Nicholas, they remained in piety and purity, and felt this unity in Christ. The most important thing is that, for the salvation of our souls, we pray for the well—being of our state, for the bestowment of health and prosperity to all of us in truth and purity, and in the purity of faith. This experience was acquired during the procession. Brief words before the start of the procession: with God on all roads towards gaining the experience of life in Christ, showing unity in God. God be with you!" said the bishop.
The Velikoretsky Procession is the most ancient, famous, crowded and majestic of all the religious processions of the Vyatka land. It starts on June 3 from the Assumption Cathedral in Kirov, goes through the village of Makarye, the villages of Bobino, Zagarye, Monastyrskoye, Gorokhovo. The final destination is the village of Velikoretskoye, where divine services are held in churches and on the banks of the Velikaya River. The pilgrims return through the village of Medyany and the village of Murygino and arrive in Kirov on June 8. Thousands of pilgrims from different cities and villages of Russia travel the 180-kilometer route.
In 2017, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia led the prayer procession.
