On January 23–24, 2025, Metropolitan Tikhon of All America and Canada took part in the annual "March for Life" events in Washington, D.C. This was reported by the website of the Orthodox Church in America. The pro-life march has been held in Washington every year since 1974.
On January 23, Metropolitan Tikhon met with Emily Yocum (Wilkinson), president of the organization "Orthodox Christians for Life," and program coordinator Sophia Lida. The meeting focused on educational initiatives, the protection of life, and the role of Orthodox Christians in this ministry. At the conclusion of the meeting, Metropolitan Tikhon was presented with an icon of the Holy Innocents.
Later, Metropolitan Tikhon attended a solemn mass that marked the opening of the National Prayer Vigil for Life at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. He was joined by hierarchs from various Orthodox jurisdictions, including Archbishop Michael of New York and New Jersey, Bishop John of Worcester, and Bishop Andrew of Cleveland.
The next day, January 24, Metropolitan Tikhon led an Orthodox prayer gathering at the National Mall and then served a moleben with clergy and believers, praying for an end to abortion. Tens of thousands of people advocating for the protection of life and traditional values participated in the march. U.S. Vice President James David Vance addressed the demonstrators, emphasizing the importance of protecting unborn children and strengthening family values.
The "March for Life" has been held annually in Washington since 1974. In 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned its previous ruling, transferring abortion regulation decisions to the state level. In 2020, during his first presidential term, Donald Trump became the first sitting president to personally participate in the march.
