Anniversary celebrations were held on May 28 at the Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist on Kamenny Island.
The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by the rector, Archpriest Vadim Burenin, with the clergy. Representatives of the city administration, municipal authorities, the public, and the delegation of the Rosgvardiya battalion guarding the Hermitage prayed during the service. A religious procession took place.
Father Vadim gave a lecture on the history of the parish at the cultural and educational center.
Russian Russian culture and art are the mainstay of true spirituality," the priest noted. - Our task is to preserve what our ancestors passed down. Kamennoostrovskaya Church is a masterpiece of architectural art. This was understood even in Soviet times, when the already signed order for its demolition was canceled. And now, after the restoration, it is undoubtedly the pearl of the Stone Island," said the priest.
In 1776, with a large gathering of people, royalty, state, church and military officials, the first Russian Kamennoostrovsky Invalid House and the Church of the Nativity of John the Baptist were founded on Kamenny Island. The poet Vasily Ruban wrote an ode to the laying of the foundation stone of the church, in the name of which the originally planned name sounds - in honor of the first apostles Peter and Paul. However, before the consecration, Emperor Pavel Petrovich (then Tsarevich) changed the name.
