The Holy Martyr Boyan, Prince of Bulgaria, suffered for his faith in Christ around the year 830. When his pagan brother Malomir (Vladimir) ascended the Bulgarian throne, the venerable Prince Boyan asked him to release the Christian Kinnamon (Kinama), who had been imprisoned for a long time because he refused to participate in pagan sacrifice under Prince Obrit (Krutogon), the predecessor of Prince Malomir.
The wish of the blessed Prince Boyan was fulfilled, and when he saw the extremely exhausted Kinnamon, he asked why he suffered so much. In a long conversation, the enlightened Christian explained to the pagan prince the errors of paganism and the necessity of the Christian faith for salvation. At the end of a friendly conversation, he told the prince: "Without Christ Jesus, there is no light for the mind, there is no life for the soul. He alone is the Teacher of mankind and our Savior, who reconciled the truth of God with guilty humanity by His death. Don't you want to get yourself killed? "Believe in the Lord Jesus." Prince Boyan gladly accepted Holy Baptism. The newly converted prince, having become acquainted with Christian piety, was imbued with a sincere love for prayer, fasting and God-thinking. Malomir, having learned about his brother's conversion to Christianity, demanded that he renounce the Christian faith and return to paganism.
However, the holy Prince Boyan resolutely replied: "I abhor pagan idols and worship Christ, the True God, and no one can separate me from my love for Christ." Malomir, having heard his brother's answer, sentenced him to death. Before his martyrdom, the holy Prince-confessor prophetically said: "The faith for which I am dying will spread throughout the Bulgarian land. They hope in vain to stop her by my death. Temples to the True God will be erected, and His worship will not cease, and idols and filthy altars will disappear." With his last prophetic word, he turned to Brother Malomir: "You will not benefit from your cruelty, and death will soon befall you."
The prediction of the holy martyr, who was killed by the sword, was fulfilled above all over his brother. Malomir died soon after, and since he had no heir, his elder brother Presyan (836-852) succeeded to the throne. Prince Presyan's son, the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Boris, baptized the Bulgarian people in Holy Baptism (May 2). This prophecy of the holy martyr Prince Boyan has also been fulfilled.
