Russian Russian Orthodox Church On October 22, 2026, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church decided to rename the Cathedral of the Saints of Moscow, celebrated on October 5 (18), to the Cathedral of the Primates of the Russian Church (journal No. 67). 
This large-scale calendar reform is designed to emphasize the church-wide status of the memorial day and unite the names of all the glorified Primates who led the Russian Church throughout its history in one celebration. From now on, the updated Cathedral includes the names of 23 hierarchs, including the primates of the pre-patriarchal period from Metropolitan Michael to Metropolitan Macarius, the first Patriarchs Job and Hermogenes, St. Tikhon, as well as the Holy Martyr Metropolitan Peter (Polyansky), included in the list as Patriarchal Locum tenens.
This decision of the Synod also corrected a long-standing liturgical contradiction that arose after 2005, when Saints Filaret (Drozdov), Innokenty (Veniaminov) and Makariy (Nevsky) were mistakenly added to the Council. Historically, this service was addressed exclusively to the "Russian Mother Sees," while the mentioned saints headed the Moscow department during the Synodal period, but were not All-Russian Primates. Now their collective commemoration will be celebrated in early September together with other Moscow saints, and the October celebration will become strictly hierarchical and will stand on a par with such significant dates of the month as the Council of the New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church. The Synodal Liturgical Commission has already been instructed to prepare and make appropriate changes to the texts of the memorial service.
