Blessed Andrew, a fool for Christ's sake, was a Slav and lived in Constantinople in the tenth century. From a young age, he fell in love with the temple of God and the Sacred Books. One day, in a dream vision, the blessed one saw two armies. In one there were men in light clothes, in the other there were black and terrible demons. The angel of God, who was holding wonderful crowns in his hand, told Andrey that these crowns were not an ornament of the earthly world, but a heavenly treasure, which the Lord awards to His soldiers who defeat the black hordes.
"Go to a good deed," said the Angel to Andrew, "be a fool for My sake, and you will receive much on the day of My Kingdom." The blessed one realized that the Lord Himself was calling him to a feat. From that time on, Andrei began to walk the streets of the city in rags, as if his mind had become confused.
The saint endured ridicule and insults for many years. He endured beatings, hunger and thirst, cold and heat complacently, begging and giving it to other beggars. For his great patience and humility, the saint received from the Lord the gift of prophecy and perspicacity, saved many from spiritual destruction, and rebuked many impious people.
During prayer in the Blachernae Church, St. Andrew was honored to see the Most Holy Theotokos covering the worshippers with Her omophorion. Blessed Andrew died in 936.
