After the restoration, the Church of the Ascension of the Lord was opened in Kolomenskoye, Moscow, one of the first stone tent churches in Russia. This is a monument of Russian architecture, built in 1532, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The restoration took two and a half years. Specialists have reinforced the brickwork, restored the white stone decor, gilded the cross and decorative apple on top of the tent, preserving the historical appearance of the unique monument, the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, said in his channel in the MAX.
Divine services will be held in the Church of the Ascension of the Lord on major Orthodox holidays, as before.
The museum also continues to operate in the temple. Not only the worship space is open to visitors, but also the basement with a permanent exhibition dedicated to the history of the church and the acquisition of the Sovereign Icon of the Mother of God.
The temple space will be available only during the warmer months. There is already an exhibition about the history of iconostases and the feast of the Ascension. The exposition on the lower floor of the church is open to the public all year round.
