A criminal court in the Russian capital has sentenced a Tajik national and his Russian partner each to 10 months behind bars, for taking a photo imitating a sexual act next to St. Basil's Cathedral in the Red Square in Moscow. When the term of incarceration is completed, the former will be deported from the Russian territory.
In accordance with Russian criminal law, they have been found guilty of the “public actions expressing vociferous disrespect to society and offending religious sentiment of believers”.
The perpetrators were forthwith taken into custody, fined $70 each and held under administrative arrest for 10 days. Later, however, a criminal complaint was filed against them, and the case has been successfully prosecuted.
