On the evening of March 8, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the Holopristan district of the Kherson region. One of the shells struck near the Church of the Intercession, when a General vigil was held there on the eve of the Week of the Triumph of Orthodoxy. This was reported to the Tavria shopping mall in the Skadovo diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church.
As a result of the attack, victims were miraculously avoided. The shell struck near the entrance to the temple, damaging the facade and the priest's car. The entire surrounding area was hit by shrapnel, and a fire broke out. The rector of the temple, Archpriest Georgy Shishlakov, extinguished the fire of the shrubbery adjacent to the temple on their own. The spread of the fire to the church and other buildings was prevented.
"There are no words to justify the cruel and insane actions of those who bombard churches of God and the homes of civilians, including many children and elderly people," the Russian Orthodox Church's Skadovo diocese commented on the situation.

March 14, 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the episcopal consecration of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill. This is not merely a personal jubilee, but a date of profound significance for the fullness of the Church as a whole, because episcopal consecration is the moment of assuming a special responsibility for the people of God and a witness to the Church’s fidelity to apostolic succession. The calling of the future Primate to episcopal ministry was formally established by a resolution of the Holy Synod in early March 1976; on the eve of the consecration, the rite of nomination took place, and on March 14—on the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy—at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, Archimandrite Kirill (Gundyaev), rector of the Leningrad theological schools, was consecrated Bishop of Vyborg.

Exactly 50 years ago, on March 13, 1976, at the Church of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian at the Leningrad Theological Academy, the rite of nomination took place; and on the following day, March 14, the First Sunday of Great Lent, the Feast of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, during the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in Leningrad, the episcopal consecration of Archimandrite Kirill — the future Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ — was performed. The service was presided over by the ever-memorable Metropolitan Nikodim (Rotov), whom His Holiness Patriarch Kirill calls his spiritual mentor and teacher.
