The General Secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC), Jerry Pillay, has issued a strong call to end the violence in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, condemning the acts of aggression that have resulted in numerous casualties and widespread destruction. In his statement, he emphasized that such actions violate international humanitarian law and human rights.
Pillay urged leaders at all levels—national, local, and international—to adopt diplomatic solutions to ensure peace and protect the rights of vulnerable groups, such as children and the elderly. He also stressed the urgent need to provide humanitarian access to those in need.
"As a council of churches committed to justice and peace, we call on the international community to intensify efforts to establish peace in the Middle East, halt attacks on Lebanon, and implement an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip," the WCC's message stated.
In its address, the World Council of Churches expressed support for the religious leaders and civil society in Lebanon who are working towards peace and dialogue, and reiterated its call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
