In Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, a traditional procession was held in honor of the 30th anniversary of the diocese.
On the 17th Week of Pentecost, after the Exaltation, on October 1, Archbishop Nikanor of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and Kuril celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Resurrection Cathedral of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
At the end of the Liturgy, the archpastor performed a prayer service for the soldiers and addressed the audience with a sermon.
Then a procession with an icon of the spiritual patron of Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands, St. Innocent of Moscow (Veniaminov), began to move from the Resurrection Cathedral.
The procession ended in the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ, where Bishop Nikanor performed a prayer service to St. Innocent and blessed the parishioners.
It is worth noting that despite the western cyclone that came to Sakhalin and rainy weather, more than 1,000 people took part in the procession dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and Kuril diocese, among them the clergy and parishioners of all churches of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the village of Troitskoye and the town of Aniva, the abbess and sisters of the Assumption Convent of S. Bereznyaks, members of the Orthodox brotherhood of Alexander Nevsky, as well as pilgrims from the parishes of the diocese.
