On September 6, a monument to St. Nicholas of Japan will be opened and consecrated in the village of Birch in the Oleninsky District in the Tver Region.
"The monument will be unveiled at the place where Vanya Kasatkin, the future founder of the Japanese Orthodox Church, spent his childhood. Today, the festival of martial arts and martial arts in Russia bears his name, as well as one of the Orthodox battalions of Russian soldiers in the SVO zone," the Tver diocese reported.

Recall that 13 years ago in the village of Mirny, Oleninsky district, the first church in Russia was erected in honor of St. Nicholas of Japan, a native of Tver land.
St. Nicholas (in the world Ivan Dmitrievich Kasatkin) is a man of amazing destiny, the founder of the Russian Orthodox Church in Japan. He was born in 1836 in the family of rural deacon Dmitry Kasatkin in the Berezovsky churchyard of the Belsky district of the Smolensk province (now the village of Birch Oleninsky district of the Tver region).

 Thanks to his pastoral activity, almost 32 thousand people were converted to Orthodoxy, 265 Orthodox churches were built. The saint built the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Tokyo, before the official opening of which he did not live two years. During the Russian-Japanese War, St. Nicholas selflessly helped compatriots, sailors, soldiers and officers of war.

The relics of Nicholas of Japan are kept in the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Tokyo. The first particle of the saint's relics brought to Russia from Japan is located in the church of St. Nicholas of Japan in the Oleninsky district.
