On June 22, 2024, the icon of the Life-Giving Trinity, painted by St. Andrei Rublev, was returned to the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra. The image was placed in its original place — in the local row of the iconostasis of the Trinity Cathedral on the south side of the Royal Gates.
The Trinity icon, painted in the first half of the 15th century at the request of St. Nikon of Radonezh, has been in the Trinity Cathedral for more than 500 years. In 1929, by order of the People's Commissariat of Education of the RSFSR, the shrine was transferred to the State Tretyakov Gallery, where it was exhibited for almost a century.
On June 21 and 22, 2026, festive divine services were held in the Lavra, dedicated to the second anniversary of the transfer of the icon of the Life-Giving Trinity to the monastery. The Divine Liturgy at Trinity Cathedral was celebrated by Bishop Kirill of Sergiev Posad and Dmitrov, Vicar of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra and Rector of the Moscow Theological Academy.
During the Liturgy, Bishop Kirill performed the deaconal ordination of reader Makariy Kolodka, a 3rd-year undergraduate student at the Sretensky Theological Academy, and the presbyterian ordination of Deacon Pavel Kazakov, a 2nd-year graduate student at the Moscow Theological Academy.
At the end of the Liturgy, Bishop Kirill and the brethren of the Lavra celebrated the feast and venerated the icon of the Holy Trinity.
The liturgical hymns during the Liturgy were performed by the znamenny choir conducted by Hieromonk Zinovy (Bubyakin).
