Celebrations in honor of the miraculous Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God "Odigitria" were held in Smolensk on August 9-10, 2026.
The celebration began with a meeting at the Assumption Cathedral of the XXII International Odigitrievsky Procession, which arrived from Vitebsk, and a procession with the shrines of the Boldinsky Monastery, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the discovery of the relics of St. Gerasim Boldinsky.
On August 9, Vespers with the akathist before the miraculous icon and an all-night vigil were celebrated in the cathedral. The divine services were led by Metropolitan Isidore of Smolensk and Dorogobuzhsky and the hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church who attended the celebrations. On the same day, participants of the IX International Odigitrievsky Bell Ringing Festival, which brought together bell ringers from Russia and Belarus, performed on Cathedral Hill.
On August 10, the day of the celebration of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God, the Divine Liturgy was held in the Assumption Cathedral. It was performed by the Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, Metropolitan Veniamin of Minsk and Zaslavsky, Metropolitan Isidore of Smolensk and Dorogobuzhsky, and other archpastors. Participants in religious processions, representatives of the clergy and monasticism, residents of Smolensk and pilgrims prayed during the service. The Liturgy was attended by Vasily Anokhin, Governor of the Smolensk Region, and representatives of government agencies and public organizations.
After the service, a moleben to the Most Holy Theotokos and a procession around the cathedral with the image of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God were performed. Metropolitan Veniamin read out a message from His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to the participants of the celebration.
The celebrations ended with a festive concert with the participation of the Orthodox choir of the engineering troops "For Faith and Fatherland" and the folk song ensemble "Slavs".
