Baptism is a significant personal event for everyone who comes to such a step at a certain stage of their life. It is not uncommon for prison staff to hear requests for permission to perform the sacrament; this happened this time in Remand prison No. 2 (SIZO-2), located in Segezha.
An important spiritual event has affected a minor convict, who will soon go to a place of serving her sentence outside the region. The girl made the decision to be baptized on her own. The ceremony took place in the prayer room operating in SIZO-2; the baptism was conducted by the dean of the Segezha district, head of the Department of prison Ministry of the Kostomuksha diocese, assistant to the head of the said detention center, Priest Igor Egorov.
The staff of the institution express the hope that in addition to the ritual significance, this act will help the young pupil to rethink episodes of the past. After a short time, she will again discuss with the priest the basics of Orthodox culture, issues of moral choice and personal responsibility, as she will receive communion. Along with this, the convict will continue to provide the necessary psychological support, as well as ensure the continuity of educational work when transferring information to the institution where she will be sent in the future.
