For the first time, the Orthodox community in the city of Ojo, Lagos State, Nigeria, witnessed the celebration of the Divine Liturgy on September 21 and 22, 2024. According to the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa, this marks a significant milestone for the Orthodox community in the region, being the first liturgy ever conducted in this city and state.

The Divine Liturgy was led by Father Daniel Agbaza, the Dean of Parishes of the North African Diocese in Nigeria. During his visit, he provided confession for all those who wished to participate and officiated the service. Ojo is located in the southwestern part of Nigeria, along the coast of the Gulf of Guinea.

The Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa received its official registration in Nigeria in November 2022. Currently, there are Russian Orthodox Church communities in the Nigerian states of Lagos, Anambra, Delta, and Benue. The Russian Church has also been able to carry out social work based on the existing parishes; in 2022, when many residents faced the threat of hunger, the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa delivered humanitarian aid to the parishes.

In April 2023, a prayer book was published in Tiv, one of the ten most widely spoken languages in Nigeria, for the faithful in the country. Future Nigerian clergy are currently studying at the Moscow and St. Petersburg Theological Academies.
