On September 21, 2025, a grand celebration was held at Tuman Monastery in Serbia to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the transfer of the miraculous Kursk Icon of the Mother of God. More than 15,000 believers attended the event to pray before the sacred icon and participate in the festive services.
The festivities began with the Divine Liturgy, led by the monastery's abbot, Archimandrite Dimitri. Following the liturgy, a water blessing service and a procession with the icon took place, during which pilgrims were given blessed laurel and olive leaves, as well as rose petals. Archimandrite Dimitri remarked that such a large turnout of worshippers demonstrated the deep love of the people for the Church and the living presence of the Most Holy Theotokos.
The Kursk Icon of the Mother of God was brought to Serbia by Russian monks nearly nine decades ago and has been housed at Tuman Monastery ever since. Numerous legends and accounts of miracles are associated with the icon: through prayers offered before it, the monastery has been saved from fires and attacks, the sick have received healing, and childless couples have been blessed with children.
In honor of the anniversary, Archimandrite Dimitri published a book titled "She Never Sleeps – The Beauty of Tuman." The book is available for purchase at newsstands across Serbia, with all proceeds directed to the humanitarian needs of the Religious Charitable Foundation, which provides daily meals for over two thousand needy individuals in Belgrade.
