The demand for religious literature in Russia has seen remarkable growth in 2024. According to RBC, Bible sales increased by 52% during the first three quarters compared to the same period in 2023, as reported by the "Chitai-Gorod" bookstore chain. The 1876 Synodal translation remains the most popular edition.
E-commerce platforms also reported substantial growth. Wildberries, a leading online marketplace, recorded a 2.2-fold increase in Bible sales from January to November 2024. Sales of the Gospel on the platform rose by 46%.
Illustrated editions, such as *The Bible with Illustrations by Gustave Doré*, and accessible spiritual guides like *The Power of a Woman's Prayer* and *Teaching Children About God* have gained significant traction. Publishers note that readers turn to these works to address existential questions and cope with anxiety. Books simplifying complex theological concepts and exploring women's roles in spiritual life are particularly popular.
The interest in religious literature marks a shift from the decline seen in 2019–2021. Over the past three years, sales have steadily increased, attributed to global economic instability, conflicts, and widespread uncertainty. As global challenges persist, the growing popularity of religious texts underscores their role as sources of solace and guidance for readers worldwide.
This trend is not limited to Russia. In the United States, Bible sales grew by 22% from January to October 2024. Moreover, religious texts have become a lucrative venture for public figures. For instance, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump reportedly earned approximately $300,000 by selling branded Bibles.
