With the blessing of Metropolitan Konstantin of Petrozavodsk and Karelia, the results of the "Theology in Colors" project were summed up at the Annunciation John-Yashezersk Monastery in Karelia. The initiative, supported by a grant from the Head of the Republic of Karelia, A.O. Parfenchikov, allowed for a full cycle of restoration work on unique iconographic monuments of particular importance for the cultural heritage of the Vepsian settlements.
During the implementation of the project, six iconographic monuments were restored by the restoration workshop of the Annunciation John-Yashezersky Monastery. These shrines were given to the monastery by the inhabitants of rural Vepsian settlements.
A full cycle of scientific restoration was carried out for the icons of "The Miracle of St. George of the Serpent," "St. Tikhon of Zadonsk," "St. Sergius the Almighty," "St. Sergius of Radonezh," "St. Theodosius of Totem against the background of the Saviour-Sumor Monastery," and the image of the Mother of God "Joy of All the Sorrowful."
For each of the listed icons, specialists have prepared restoration passports with full photofixation of all stages of the work carried out.
An important area of the project was the systematization of the monastic collection. An inventory of the icon painting was carried out: 30 storage units received registration cards and restoration passports. An accounting and receipt log was created, as well as information was collected for the monastic sacristy museum fund.
A special result of the project was the spiritual response of local residents. Several icons were donated to the monastery, including the image of St. George the Victorious, which testifies to the trust and interest of the population in the revival of church life in the region.
In addition to the restoration, a chapel with a bell in honor of the Prophet John the Baptist was designed based on archival materials and field studies. It is planned to recreate it on the historical lands of the monastery.
The implementation of the "Theology in Colors" project has shown the high interest of the local population in preserving the cultural heritage of the Vepsian settlements. Thanks to the support of the Head of the Republic of Karelia, the unique iconographic monuments were returned to cultural and ecclesiastical use, and a solid foundation was created for their further study and preservation.
