On the day of the end of World War II, on September 3, in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the grand opening of the memorial chapel took place at the observation deck near Vysotnaya Street. It is dedicated to the defenders of the Fatherland, the fallen and missing on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War, as well as in other local wars and armed conflicts.
The chapel in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky was created in memory of the participants of the 1945 Kuril landing operation. The memorial was erected with the support of the FSB and the Russian Ministry of Defense. The program provides for the construction of chapels in the places of the fiercest battles and manifestations of mass heroism. Similar memorials have already been installed in 21 cities of Russia and in the Republic of Belarus.
After the opening ceremony, the chapel was consecrated by Archpriest Vladimir Bogoslavsky, head of the diocesan Department for Cooperation with the Armed forces and Law enforcement Agencies, co-served by the clergy of the diocese.
The ceremony was attended by the leadership and staff of the central office of the FSB of Russia, the Federal Security Service of Russia for the Kamchatka Territory, the FSB Border Directorate for the Eastern Arctic Region, representatives of the government of the Kamchatka Territory, military personnel of the troops and forces in the northeast, participants of the international association of veterans of the Alpha antiterrorism unit and the Veteran Landing project.
