A Gospel published in the XVI century has been discovered in St. Petersburg, which, judging by the inscription, belonged to Simeon Polotsky, Nikolai Nikolaev, head of the rare books department of the Russian National Library, said on social networks.
According to him, the restorers asked to see this book. This is a printed edition from 1591, made in Rome. The book contains Gospel texts in Latin and Arabic, as well as handwritten fragments in Greek.
On the last page there are entries in Slavic and Latin. It follows from them that the book belonged to Simeon Petrovsky-Sitnyanovich, that is, Simeon Polotsky, who is known as a theologian, poet, author of various books. The thinker lived in the XVII century.
Nikolai Nikolaev, who reported on the discovery of the Gospel from the library of Simeon Polotsky, is a native of the Grodno region. He has been working at the Russian National Library since 1978, where he got a job after graduating from the Belarusian State University.
It is not yet known who exactly owns the book now, but in Belarus itself at the XXIV Minsk International Book Fair a few years ago, the publication "Rod of Government" was exhibited. The author of the work is Simeon Polotsky. The book was published in 1667 in Moscow.
Nowadays, Belgazprombank, which bought the original copy of the book, has made a facsimile edition of the Rod of Government together with the National Library of Belarus.
At the same time, in the republic, in addition to the copy of Belgazprombank, there are other publications of the "Rod of Government". They are kept in the National Library, in the Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences and the Simeon Polotsky Museum-Library (Polotsk). A copy of the bank is valuable because it is the earliest edition that was printed during the author's lifetime.
In fact, this book explains what the Old Believers were wrong about. It was published a few years after the church schism in the Moscow state. There are also instructions for rulers in the book.
