On August 5, 2025, in the city of Pechora, Metropolitan Matthew of Pskov and Porkhovsky, Metropolitan Kirill of Stavropol and Nevinnomyssk, Chairman of the Synodal Department for Cooperation with the Armed Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies, Mikhail Vedernikov, Governor of the Pskov Region, and a delegation from the Christian Mercy Charitable Foundation headed by Sergei Stepashin, Chairman of the Foundation, inspected the building of a rehabilitation center for participants in a special military operation, built on the territory of the Pilgrimage Center of the Holy Dormition Pskov-Pechersk Monastery as part of the Foundation's charitable program.
The rehabilitation center is designed for the psychological, socio-cultural and physical rehabilitation of ITS participants, including those with disabilities, their recovery and recreation. The Center will pay special attention to the spiritual support of veterans, as its activities will be conducted with the blessing and under the auspices of the Church. The care of veterans undergoing rehabilitation at the institution is planned to be carried out by the brethren of the Pskov-Pechersk Monastery. In addition, former military personnel will attend divine services, be involved in obediences at the monastery and participate in pilgrimage trips.
Sergey Stepashin noted that it is necessary to set a clear deadline for the opening of the center, so that the first participants of the free movement can enter it by autumn.
The Center has created comfortable social and living conditions for staying: full 4 meals a day, a sanitary and hygienic room adapted to the needs of people with disabilities, laundry services, accessibility of buildings and structures for groups with limited mobility.
The center has a capacity of 38 residents. The Center provides rehabilitation in three areas: psychological (diagnosis, individual and group work with a psychologist), social (spiritual, socio-cultural, athletic, natural), physical (physical education, massage, occupational therapy). It is also planned to organize joint work with the Ministry of Social Protection of the Pskov Region, the Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation branch in the Pskov region, the Work of Russia personnel center in the Pskov region and other institutions aimed at helping participants and veterans of their military operations receive the necessary social support measures, payments, rehabilitation funds, and registration of a combat veteran's certificate., document restoration, retraining, or employment.
