A monument to Saint Princess Olga will be installed in the town of Slantsy in the Leningrad Region, in celebration of the town’s 95th anniversary. The initiative is supported by the regional administration, according to TASS.

The monument will be located in a park on Kirov Street. Governor Alexander Drozdenko has ordered a public competition to select the best artistic design for the monument, with the regional Committee for Cultural Heritage Preservation overseeing the project.

Princess Olga holds a revered place in Russian history as the first ruler of Kievan Rus’ to adopt Christianity. Following the death of her husband, Prince Igor, she served as regent for her young son, Svyatoslav, and played a vital role in state governance. According to tradition, she was baptized in Constantinople in the mid-10th century, receiving the Christian name Helena. Her grandson, Prince Vladimir, would later lead the Christianization of Rus’. Both were canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church as saints with the title "Equal-to-the-Apostles."

Although Slantsy itself was founded in the 20th century, it is located near historical sites tied to Princess Olga’s legacy. Just 20 kilometers away lies the site known as Olgin Krest (“Olga’s Cross”), where local legend claims she miraculously survived a boating accident on the Narva River and erected a wooden cross in gratitude. A church was later built on the site, which was destroyed during World War II.

Since 2010, Princess Olga has been featured on the coat of arms and flag of the Slantsy District, symbolizing the region’s historical and spiritual connection to the legendary ruler.
