On February 14, 2025, a meeting took place at the Jerusalem Patriarchate headquarters, where Patriarchs and heads of Christian Churches in Jerusalem, led by Patriarch Theophilos III, met with a delegation of consuls general, mission heads in Jerusalem and the Palestinian Authority, as well as representatives from UNESCO and the Middle East Quartet.
The meeting included representatives from various Christian denominations, including the Custodian of the Holy Land, Francesco Patton, Archbishop of the Episcopal Archdiocese, Hosam Naoum, and delegates from the Armenian, Coptic, and Ethiopian Patriarchates.
According to the Jerusalem Patriarchate website, the main topic of discussion was the impact of the military conflict in Gaza and the region on local Christian communities. The conversation focused on the difficulties faced by the communities, as well as how to preserve the religious and cultural diversity of the Holy Land.
Patriarch Theophilos III called for strengthening the ceasefire agreement, restoring places of worship, and expanding diplomatic cooperation between the Churches. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the status quo, particularly regarding the protection of the Armenian Quarter and the preservation of the Christian presence in Jerusalem and the Holy Land.
During the Q&A session, issues discussed included the escalation of violence, economic hardships, taxation of religious institutions, restrictions on religious services, as well as acts of vandalism and hate crimes against clergy and pilgrims.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants called on the international community to assist Christian communities, support the restoration of churches, schools, and hospitals in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem, and help the Churches' efforts to establish lasting peace.
