The Synod of the Church of Greece decided that on March 24, 2024, the day of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, Greek politicians who voted for the legalization of gay marriage should not be in churches.
Thus, Archbishop Jerome and the Permanent Holy Synod decided to express their dissatisfaction with the government's decision to legalize same-sex marriage.
In addition, according to Greek media, Archbishop Jerome and members of the Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church will not take part in the traditional dinner that the President of Greece arranges every year on the day of the Triumph of Orthodoxy in honor of the members of the Synod.
Journalists, citing church sources, claim that "the ice has not moved" even after a phone call made last Saturday by Archbishop Hieronymus to Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou to inform her of the Synod's decision.

The calling of the future Primate to episcopal ministry was formally established by a resolution of the Holy Synod in early March 1976; on the eve of the consecration, the rite of nomination took place, and on March 14—on the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy—at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, Archimandrite Kirill (Gundyaev), rector of the Leningrad theological schools, was consecrated Bishop of Vyborg.

Exactly 50 years ago, on March 13, 1976, at the Church of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian at the Leningrad Theological Academy, the rite of nomination took place; and on the following day, March 14, the First Sunday of Great Lent, the Feast of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, during the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in Leningrad, the episcopal consecration of Archimandrite Kirill — the future Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ — was performed. The service was presided over by the ever-memorable Metropolitan Nikodim (Rotov), whom His Holiness Patriarch Kirill calls his spiritual mentor and teacher.
