The election of a new Metropolitan of Vidin took place in the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. The chair in Vidin became vacant after the election of Metropolitan Daniel as Patriarch of Bulgaria in 2024.

According to the website of the Bulgarian Church, Bishop Pakhomiy of Branitsa became the new head of the Vidin diocese by a unanimous decision of the Holy Synod. The election of a new metropolitan was held at the Synodal Palace in Sofia. His candidacy was supported by all 14 members of the Synod, including Patriarch Daniel of Bulgaria and Metropolitan Daniel of Sofia. Prior to that, Bishop Pakhomiy served as the first vicar of the Patriarch of Bulgaria.

Bishop Pakhomiy (Lozanov), was born on April 25, 1978 in Sofia. He received his education at the Sofia Theological Seminary, and later graduated from the Faculty of Theology at Sofia University. In 2002, he was tonsured a monk and since then has been actively involved in church life, holding various positions, including abbot of the Divotinsky monastery.

During his abbotship, the monastery experienced a spiritual renaissance. Father Pakhomiy organized significant work to strengthen and restore churches and monastery buildings. In 2017, Pakhomiy was appointed rector of the Sofia Theological Seminary.

The new metropolitan expressed gratitude for the trust shown and noted that he accepts the responsibility of ministry with trepidation. He emphasized the importance of spiritual wisdom and relying on God's help in his future work. In his address, Pakhomiy expressed gratitude to all his predecessors in the diocese of Vidin, and also thanked for the support of his spiritual mentors and all those who shared the path of church service with him.
