On September 15, 2024, the ancient town of Turov hosted the 10th annual Wedding Day celebration, coinciding with the feast day of Saints Peter and Fevronia, the patrons of family and marriage. The event, focused on promoting family values and traditions, marked a special occasion for the community.
The celebration was organized by the Gomel Regional Executive Committee, the Turov Diocese of the Belarusian Orthodox Church, and local authorities. It took place within the framework of a program aimed at preserving historical and cultural heritage while boosting tourism in the region.
The main festivities were held at the Cathedral of Saints Cyril and Lawrence of Turov. The day began with a Divine Liturgy, led by Bishop Leonid of Turov and Mozyr, alongside local clergy. The service included prayers for the preservation of marriages, particularly relevant on the feast day of Saints Peter and Fevronia.
Following the Liturgy, Bishop Leonid conducted the sacrament of marriage for five couples of varying generations, including one couple in their 80s. Over the past decade, approximately 50 couples have entered into holy matrimony during the Turov Wedding Day celebrations.
