The Armenian authorities may take away the property of the Armenian Apostolic Church for the needs of the state. This was stated at a briefing in parliament by Artur Hovhannisyan, secretary of the faction of the ruling party of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan "Civil Contract".
Protests of the Tavush for the Motherland opposition movement, led by Archbishop Bagrat, Chairman of the Tavush Diocese, continue in Armenia.
"The Armenian Apostolic Church has a special status, but given the democratic and tax changes taking place in Armenia, the financial resources circulating in our country must come out of the shadows. Yes, the church has a number of privileges, there are territories that are not used. They can be useful to the state, used for various needs of the state. The Church must cooperate with the state and come out of the shadows," Hovhannisyan said.
Earlier, against the background of rallies led by Archbishop Bagrat, Pashinyan also spoke, accusing the Armenian Apostolic Church of being an "agent of influence" since the early Middle Ages, and threatening to "resolve the issue in the next two to three months"
