The Orthodox Church of Albania celebrated the enthronement of its new Metropolitan of Korçë, His Eminence Anastasios (Mamaj), in a solemn ceremony held at the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ. The event was led by His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana, Durrës, and All Albania, together with members of the Holy Synod, as reported by Orthodox Times.

The liturgy and enthronement drew hundreds of faithful, clergy from across the country, and representatives of local government. In his first address following his installation, Metropolitan Anastasios emphasized that his new role is first and foremost a calling to humble service:

"Every enthronement is not merely a human event, but a moment in the life of the Church — a new stone placed in the living temple of the Body of Christ," he said. "I come not as a stranger, but as a brother — not to be served, but to serve."

The newly enthroned Metropolitan paid tribute to the late Archbishop Anastasios, calling him a "great renewer of the Albanian Church," and expressed deep gratitude to Archbishop John (Janullatos) for continuing his legacy. Referring to Korçë as a “city of light and culture,” he pledged to strengthen its spiritual life, with a special focus on youth outreach and unity between clergy and laity.

Archbishop John highlighted Metropolitan Anastasios's significant contributions to the administrative and educational life of the Church since 2017, including his stewardship of church property and institutions.

Born in 1979 in Vlorë, Metropolitan Anastasios holds degrees in Modern Greek language and philosophy from the University of Athens, as well as a Master’s in Business Administration and a diploma in social theology from Logos University College. He was ordained deacon in 2018 and priest in 2019 by the late Archbishop Anastasios.

Elected unanimously by the Holy Synod on September 16, he previously served as Bishop of Krujë and vicar to the Archbishop. Since December 2024, he had also served as protosyncellus of the Archdiocese of Tirana and Durrës.
