18 tons of watermelons from Yaroslavl were donated to the Social Department of the Khabarovsk Diocese. A huge truck near the Humanitarian warehouse on the territory of the Elizabethan parish was unloaded by the whole world: parishioners and priests, activists and wards of the social department.
— It was so unexpected. Last night I got a call from St. Petersburg: Father Paisii is there, who is friends with a benefactor from Yaroslavl. They are sending trucks with watermelons all over Russia, all of Siberia and the entire Far East, they were recently unloaded in Vladivostok, and today they reached us, and we had a big watermelon event," Priest Nikolai Vorozhbit, head of the Department for Church Charity and Social Service of the Khabarovsk Diocese, began the story.
Watermelons were distributed to Khabarovsk parishes, the Peter and Paul Monastery and Theological Seminary, the Russian Classical School, the wards of RO VORDI and the apartment of accompanied accommodation on Pokusa, military personnel of the military unit and numerous wards of the social department — to people in need.
— Unloading watermelons was very joyful. We realized that we had become part of a large-scale chain of goodness that encompassed the whole of Russia. During work, we all talked, got to know each other, and after that we set the tables in the refectory, treated our volunteers and at the same time tested the taste — the fruits turned out to be really sweet, fragrant and juicy," the staff of the social department shared.
Thanks to this unexpected help, hundreds of residents of the region who found themselves in a difficult life situation received sweet vitamins. Such initiatives once again prove that there is no such thing as someone else's grief and too great a distance for real charity.
