During the celebration of the 650th anniversary of the city of Kirov, on September 20 and 21, 2024, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the managing director of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Gregory of Resurrection, visited the Vyatka Diocese.
On September 20, Metropolitan Gregory of the Resurrection visited the church in honor of the Forty Martyrs of Sebaste in the city of Kirov, the Catherine Church and the Vyatka Orthodox Gymnasium in the name of St. Tryphon of Vyatka, talked with the director of the Orthodox gymnasium Elena Moshkina, students of the school. Also, Metropolitan Gregory of the Resurrection, Metropolitan Mark of Vyatka and the secretary of the Vyatka Diocese, Priest Vitaly Lapshin, visited the Church of John the Baptist and the Cathedral of the Savior in Kirov, the exhibition hall of the diocesan warehouse, the Assumption Trifonov Monastery, worshiped the shrines of the Assumption Cathedral, examined the font and the spring. In the Nikolsky gate Church, they prayed in front of the Velikoretsky Image of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, with whom the All-Russian procession is held annually. Then Bishop Gregory visited the diocesan administration, the library and the classrooms of the Training Center for Church Specialists.
On the evening of September 20, on the eve of the celebration of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, Metropolitan Gregory of the Resurrection led an all-night vigil at the Transfiguration Convent.
On September 21, the feast of the Nativity of Our Most Holy Lady Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary, a solemn divine service was held in the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in Kirov.
At the end of the service, Metropolitan Mark addressed the audience: "I congratulate you on the feast of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos and on the jubilee — the 650th anniversary of our glorious city. Thank you all for coming to this holy temple today and sharing with us the joy of communion with God."
Metropolitan Gregory of the Resurrection congratulated residents and guests on the 650th anniversary of the city of Kirov:
"Dear lords! Dear Alexander Valentinovich, Governor of the Kirov region! Dear fathers, brothers and sisters! His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia sends his love, joy and congratulations to all of you on the anniversary of the city of Vyatka, its 650th anniversary. This anniversary is celebrated primarily by those people who love this city and put their soul, their heart into its development, prosperity, and well-being. Today is a special holiday, a holiday first of all for all Vyatchans, residents of the city, because the city is first of all the people who live in it. The city of Vyatka can be proud of its centuries-old history, but every resident of this city writes this story today. Each of you is involved in his fate, each of you participates in the decision of his future, and therefore I urge all of you to work zealously and diligently for the benefit of the city, so that our descendants remember our day with a kind word.
In consideration of the assistance of the Vyatka Diocese, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia awarded the Russian Orthodox Church awards to the heads of the region and regional enterprises.
Metropolitan Gregory presented an icon of the Cathedral of the Most Holy Theotokos as a gift to the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos of the city.
On the same day, the opening and consecration of the monument to the Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky took place in Kirov on the renovated Alexander Nevsky Square in front of the regional Philharmonic Hall.
Then Metropolitan Gregory of the Resurrection and Metropolitan Mark of Vyatka and Sloboda visited the temples of the city of Slobodsky and the Nativity Convent.
The Managing Director of the Moscow Patriarchate also visited St. Nicholas Church in Slobodsky, built in 1732.
The bishops also visited the Catherine Cathedral of the city of Slobodsky. The main building of the temple was built in 1699.
The visit ended with a visit to the Nativity Convent of Slobodsky, which was founded in the XVII century. In 1863, the monastery became famous for the first miracles from the icon of the Mother of God "In Sorrow and Sorrow Consolation", brought by Elder Paisius from Mount Athos.
