On August 31, 2026, celebrations were held in the Gornoaltai Diocese in honor of the 100th anniversary of the blessed repose of St. Macarius, Metropolitan of Moscow and Altai, as well as in honor of the 10th anniversary of the transfer of his holy relics from the Trinity-Sergius Lavra to the city of Gorno-Altaysk. Archpastors from various dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church gathered to prayerfully celebrate these significant dates.
The Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of St. Macarius of Altai in Gorno-Altaisk was led by Metropolitan Rostislav of Tomsk and Asinovo.
The head of the Tomsk Metropolis was concelebrated by a host of clergy from Gornoaltai and other dioceses.
At a special litany, Bishop Roman of Rubtsovo and Aleysky offered a prayer for holy Russia. Then Bishop Macarius of Gornoaltai and Chemal prayed for the construction of a cathedral in Gorno-Altaysk.
Archpriest Georgy Balakin, Secretary of the Gornoaltai Diocese, delivered a sermon on the communion verse. Then the archpastors and the clergy glorified St. Macarius before his holy relics.
At the end of the Liturgy, Metropolitan Rostislav of Tomsk and Asinovo addressed the worshippers with a word about St. Macarius. Vladyka also presented Bishop Macarius with an icon of the Holy Trinity.
In response, Bishop Macarius shared the spiritual joy of prayer together and presented the bishops with icons of St. Macarius.
On the same day, the Altai Republic Cultural Development Center hosted a solemn event dedicated to the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the blessed repose of St. Macarius and the 10th anniversary of the transfer of his holy relics to Gorno-Altaysk.
