Priest Vasily Beletsky, a cleric of the Kursk Diocese, arrived in the Republic of Seychelles to serve. The priest was sent on a long-term business trip to establish church life in this country with the blessing of Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations, on the recommendation of Metropolitan Constantine of Cairo and North Africa, Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, and in coordination with Metropolitan Herman of Kursk and Rila.
On October 4, 2026, the 18th Week after Pentecost, Fr Basil celebrated the Divine Liturgy in Victoria, the capital of Seychelles.
Embassy staff, our compatriots living in the country, and tourists prayed during the service.
At the end of the Liturgy, Father Basil preached a sermon on the Gospel reading.
After the service, Priest Basil served a water prayer and a requiem mass.

March 14, 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the episcopal consecration of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill. This is not merely a personal jubilee, but a date of profound significance for the fullness of the Church as a whole, because episcopal consecration is the moment of assuming a special responsibility for the people of God and a witness to the Church’s fidelity to apostolic succession. The calling of the future Primate to episcopal ministry was formally established by a resolution of the Holy Synod in early March 1976; on the eve of the consecration, the rite of nomination took place, and on March 14—on the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy—at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, Archimandrite Kirill (Gundyaev), rector of the Leningrad theological schools, was consecrated Bishop of Vyborg.

By the decision of His Holiness Patriarch Pimen and the Holy Synod of March 3, 1976, Archimandrite Kirill (Gundyaev), rector of the Leningrad Theological Academy and Seminary, was elected Bishop of Vyborg, vicar of the Leningrad Diocese.

Exactly 50 years ago, on March 13, 1976, at the Church of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian at the Leningrad Theological Academy, the rite of nomination took place; and on the following day, March 14, the First Sunday of Great Lent, the Feast of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, during the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in Leningrad, the episcopal consecration of Archimandrite Kirill — the future Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ — was performed. The service was presided over by the ever-memorable Metropolitan Nikodim (Rotov), whom His Holiness Patriarch Kirill calls his spiritual mentor and teacher.
