The staff of the Synodal Department for Church Charity and Social Service, Archpriest Sergiy Klyaev, head of the hospital ministry department, and Natalia Shakuro, head of the hospital ministry department, held two seminars on hospital and hospital ministries on June 2-3, 2026 in Ivanovo. A meeting with Metropolitan Joseph of Ivanovo-Voznesensk and Vichug was also held as part of the trip.
The first seminar was held on June 2 for the sisters of mercy. The seminar participants discussed the organization of sisterhood, interaction with medical staff, care for the seriously ill, as well as spiritual support for the wards.
The seminar also presented a manual to help a sister in need, which was prepared by the Synodal Department for Charity. Based on the sister's 25 years of experience, the short guide describes the rules of communication with patients and staff, the preparation of patients for the sacraments, and the algorithm of actions during their performance.
The second seminar was held on June 3 for priests responsible for spiritual support in hospitals and hospitals in the region. It was attended by the heads of the social departments of the dioceses of the Ivanovo Archdiocese, deans, abbesses of monasteries and rectors of parishes. During the seminar, the participants discussed the topics of patient care, interaction with medical institutions, organization of sisterhood and practical pastoral ministry in hospitals and hospitals in the region.
Also during the trip, representatives of the Synodal Department for Charity met with Metropolitan Joseph of Ivanovo-Voznesensk and Vichug. Issues related to the development of the sisterhood ministry, coordination of the activities of hospital and hospital priests in the diocese, and a number of other issues were discussed at the meeting. The secretary of the Ivanovo-Voznesensky diocesan administration, Priest Georgy Vityazev, also participated in it.
