The heavy rains that hit the Black Sea coast of the Krasnodar Territory on the night of August 3, 2025, led to serious consequences: the Tuapse region and the city of Goryachy Klyuch were the most affected, where raging rivers overflowed their banks, causing flooding and destruction. The authorities of the Tuapse region promptly introduced an emergency regime.
While rescue services and public utilities are struggling with the consequences of the disaster, the Sochi Diocese has launched large-scale work to provide humanitarian assistance in the most affected settlements.
Vital necessities were delivered from the Tuapse church humanitarian warehouse to the village of Novomikhailovsky, Tuapse district: 180 five-liter bottles of drinking water, 30 specialized cleaning and hygiene kits, including detergents, soap, sponges, napkins, gloves, brushes, mops, buckets.
Orthodox volunteers provide great support in cleaning up the territories from the effects of the flood. Young people from the Prosveshchen Youth center at the church of Archangel Michael in Tuapse are actively involved.
Humanitarian aid was sent from Dzhubga, from the warehouse of the Department for Church Charity and Social Service of the Sochi Diocese, to the villages of Defanovka and Moldovanovka. 10 complex food and household kits have been formed, each of which contains two five-liter bottles of drinking water, cereals, bread, canned food, flour, toilet paper, wet wipes, tea, biscuits, matches, soap, sunflower oil. 200 five-liter bottles of drinking water were also transferred from the Tuapse district administration through the Dzhubga diocesan warehouse for distribution among the victims.
In the village of Moldovanovka, Orthodox volunteers organized the distribution of hot meals, bread and water, which is especially important for people who are in a critical situation and are left homeless or unable to cook.
The work of the Sochi Diocese in crisis situations has been fine-tuned in previous years. The Church not only provides financial support (provides water, food, hygiene products, trench tools), but also provides the necessary assistance through Orthodox volunteers.
As the situation stabilizes and the extent of the damage is assessed, work to provide assistance to residents of the affected areas will continue. The Sochi Diocese continues to actively participate in the restoration of normal life in the Tuapse region.
