A who's who of Russian cultural and political elites are demanding a more Christian culture in Russia, and they are fighting mad.

The Russian public space, from mainstream media to its lively alt-media, (much of it overtly Christian), politicians, public figures, and the general public has, since the beginning of the military conflict in Ukraine, been replete with rumblings and murmurings about the hopelessly liberal status quo of many aspects of Russian society. Like Wiley E. Coyote well beyond the edge of the cliff, this inane aping of all thing Western continues, despite the fact that most people realize it is ridiculous.

However, Russian society is slowly waking up, like a giant methodically loosening the many strings tying him down, shaking out of his decades long slumber, and realizing that some serious changes are in order.

We recently detailed how Russian politicians are taking a hard turn towards Christianity.

Last week, the same phenomenon erupted in the cultural space, with the public presentation of the 'Cultural Front', an impressive assembly of many of Russia's leading lights from film-making, music, TV, the church, politics, and all things cultural, declaring their intention to clean out the Augean stables of Western neo-liberal and commercial cultural trash seeping into Russia like so much mind sewage, and replace it with Christian, patriotic, nativist, traditional and noble content and ideals, which will change the nation, preparing it for a long, drawn-out show-down with the West.

Judging by who's on board, and a clear nod from the Kremlin, there is reason to hope that they will succeed.

Conservative Christian political philosopher is a supporter whose influence has rocketed in the past months.

The initiative is the brainchild of the famous Russian actor and film-maker, and all-around man-of-the-arts Nikolai Burlayev, a freshly minted parliament deputy and chairman of the Front. Burlayev's public persona puts Christianity front and center. He is omni-present on TV, public events, making charismatic speeches in the parliament, using all of his actors gifts to harangue his country about the need to turn to Christ, for repentance, and to break free from the dead and soulless culture which has suffocated the West.

A report on the launch from Russia's largest Christian TV channel, Spas.

He recently demanded, completely seriously, and to substantial public approval, that Russia bring back government censorship of all spheres of information, as in the USSR, as in Tsarist Russia, and this censorship be first and foremost Christian.

Nikolai Burlayev

The leading lights of Russia's cultural firmament have enthusiastically rallied to him. Westerners will recognize the conductor Valery Gergiev and violinist Yuri Bashmet, two international super-stars, but there are others in the group who have far more influence inside Russia, such as beloved actress Maria Shukshina (recently metamorphized into an insistent activist for Christianity), singer and parliamentarian Dmitry Pevtsov, Deputy head of the Parliament Petr Tolstoy, Christian-monarchist TV news star Anna Shafran, and academy award winning film director Andrei Konchalovsky, brother of film director Nikita Mikhalkov.

The 'Front' has not yet published a full list of its members, but it is clear from those on board so far, it will be similarly high-voltage.

The Front has not yet explained exactly how they plan to revamp Russia's public space, and it remains to be seen how effective they will be, but again because of who is involved, and what they are saying, there is reason for hope that this time, heads will roll, and change will be substantial, probably involving a lot of self-serving bureaucrats getting the sack. Their basic idea is take over the Ministry of Culture and completely change its priorities, and demand more financing from the government, and then distribute these funds to patriotic, Christian cultural projects.

About 200 prominent Russians were present at the announcement ceremony, which was held in the Russian parliament, many of them making short speeches in praise of the Front. Prominent examples were conservative Christian political philosopher Alexander Dugin and Bishop Tikhon of Pskov, well known in the West for his authorship of 'Everyday Saints'. Dugin's influence has sky-rocketed in recent months. Tikhon addressed the audience by video link.

The pro-Christian, anti-Western rhetoric in the short speeches mades by a who's who of Russian luminaries was explosive. The Russian Ministry of Culture came in for a shellacking, for practically wrecking the country and destroying its youth by presiding over the past years and decades of what many now realize was cultural subversion. It was quite the show. It is striking to see how Russia's elites have become red-pilled about the West in the months since the start of military conflict.

The rest of this article will just be some of the spicier, red-pilled quotes from some of the speeches. They make for entertaining reading.

Dugin:

Instead of culture, we have anti-Russia, with which we are fighting outside and inside. I don't really understand what the ministry is doing. It is constantly doing something,  but we just don't have a culture. There is nothing. There is no main core, no paradigm. Our whole culture is money-based, external, and radically directed against our identity. We are enslaved. We ourselves are culturally occupied.

Maria Shukshina (very Christian actress):

Holy Archangel Michael with all the Heavenly Host, Terrible guard, cut down all the desires of the enemy and his minions who want to destroy our country! Thank God for everything!

Valery Gergiev (Conductor and global mega-star):

Only by uniting, we, cultural figures, can resist the aggressive onslaught of alien diabolical anti-culture.

Burlayev:

We are in the most important battle - for the soul of man. And in battle there is not only the majority that is ready to serve and sacrifice for the glory of The Lord Jesus Christ and the Fatherland, but also those who betray and go over to the side of the enemy of Russia and the human race.

We must reorganize the Ministry of Culture, which has turned from the Ministry of Culture into the Ministry of Entertainment.

Pevtsov (very Christian actor and politician):

Thank God, Thank God! With two hands, feet, teeth and claws, I welcome the organization of this front.

We need censorship, and the most important thing is to nurture the new shoots of Russian culture and art that already exist, which have already broken through the concrete of these 30 years. They need help, they need to be financed, cultivated, and cherished.

Alexei Pushkov, (journalist and politician):

Look what is happening now in the US. Destruction of roots, destruction of monuments, history, revision of everything and everyone. A completely new essentially anti-American phenomenon is being created.

Donald Trump, addressing American voters, said a very precise phrase: “Do you think they are persecuting me? No, they are persecuting you, and I am in their way.” We must stand in the way, too.

Andrei Konchalovsky (film-maker)

There is a war going on and maybe this is the last war . And our enemy is trying to destroy, to kill history, to kill human memory in general. We must preserve our history, our independence, our geography, our culture.
