Two Romanian priests celebrated a Divine Liturgy on the summit of Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany, as reported by basilica.ro. The liturgy took place on the Feast of the Transfiguration, with Fathers Dumitru Aman and Simion Tok leading the service at the peak of the Bavarian Alps.
Father Dumitru Aman commented on the significance of the event: "If St. John of Kronstadt said that the Liturgy is paradise on earth, we tried on this day to bring the earth as close to heaven as possible. This Holy Liturgy is intended to be the start of a beautiful tradition that we will continue year after year. Passersby joined us, drawn by the beauty of the church singing and the novelty of the moment."
The service was held in the Catholic chapel "Maria Heimsuchung," located on a plateau at an altitude of around 2,600 meters. The priests expressed their gratitude to the Catholic dean Andreas Lackermaier, who provided the chapel and has supported the Orthodox parish in Garmisch-Partenkirchen since its founding.
Zugspitze, standing at 2,962 meters, is the highest peak in Germany. The chapel "Maria Heimsuchung" is situated slightly lower on the plateau. The summit was first reached by surveyor Josef Naus and his companions on August 27, 1820.
