On September 5th, the head of the Malankara Church visited the Russian Children's Clinical Hospital (RDCH) in Moscow. He was accompanied by hierarchs of the Malankara Church and members of the Working Group for the Coordination of Bilateral Relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Malankara Church.
During his visit, the head of the Malankara Church of India met with doctors, the hospital chapel's priest, and interacted with young patients and their parents, presenting them with gifts.
The hospital building houses the Church of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos, which was opened in 1994. The history of the hospital's ministry began earlier, with a group of volunteers led by Father Alexander Men, which was formed in 1989. Today, the foundation of the local community consists of volunteers from the Orthodox Mercy service. Regular church services take place in the chapel. To ensure that children and their parents understand the readings and chants during the services, volunteers print and distribute translations for each Liturgy.
The collaboration between the Russian and Malankara Churches in the field of medicine was agreed upon in May of this year during the last meeting of the Working Group on Bilateral Relations. The two Churches decided to exchange experiences in the field of social service. At Patriarch Kirill's suggestion, the first such project could be a delegation of doctors from the Church Hospital of St. Alexis of Moscow visiting India to learn about the activities of St. Gregory's Hospital in Parumala.
