Due to the severe flooding in Ratchaburi province, located in the western part of Thailand, and the evacuation of the population from the affected areas, the Foundation of the Orthodox Church in Thailand decided to provide the necessary assistance to people trapped in the disaster area.
With the blessing of the Secretary of the Thai Diocese, Archimandrite Oleg (Cherepanin), the premises located on the territory of the Assumption Monastery in Ratchaburi province can be used for temporary accommodation of evacuated residents. In case of emergency, a monastery church can also be used to provide temporary shelter for the victims.
Catering, provision of drinking water and basic necessities are provided. Clergy, staff, parishioners and volunteers are invited, to the extent possible, to participate in helping those in need.
Special attention will be paid to cooperation with local authorities and rescue services. Representatives of the Church were instructed to provide them with all possible assistance in carrying out evacuation and humanitarian measures.
Archimandrite Oleg called on the clergy and believers to show Christian mercy and active care for people in distress, as well as to offer prayers for the victims, rescuers and volunteers.
