Today, Patriarch Porfirije of the Serbian Orthodox Church consecrated the St. Sava Church in the city of Foca, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The grand consecration ceremony was conducted as Patriarch Porfirije specially visited the Dabar-Bosnian Diocese.

In his sermon following the liturgy, Patriarch Porfirije expressed that a great grace has been poured onto Foca today, emphasizing that the presence of the new church signifies the people's commitment to follow Christ. The head of the Serbian Church stated that the evangelical teachings not only define an individual's private life but also influence relations among different nations living in the same territory.

The Dabar-Bosnian Diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church encompasses parishes in the central part of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the eastern part of the Republika Srpska. Foca is situated in this region.

Republika Srpska is an autonomous entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina, declared in early 1992 by territories predominantly populated by Bosnian Serbs in response to Bosnia and Herzegovina's declaration of independence from Yugoslavia. In 1995, Republika Srpska gained international recognition. The territory of Republika Srpska includes the Zvornik and Tuzla Dioceses of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The Church of St. Sava in Foca is the largest church not only in Republika Srpska but also in the entire Bosnia and Herzegovina. Construction of the church began in 1998, modeled after churches in Serbia and Montenegro. The initiative for its construction came from the then-head of the Dabar-Bosnian Diocese, Metropolitan Nikolai. The idea to build a church in the city center dates back to the nineteenth century when Foca was under Ottoman rule. The current location was once the site of a large monastery, which did not survive to the present day. It was decided to build the Church of St. Sava on the grounds of the former monastery.
