Patriarch Daniel of Romania has called on believers to strengthen family life and support those in need in his 2026 Easter message, emphasizing the enduring importance of faith, solidarity, and compassion.

In his address, the head of the Romanian Orthodox Church highlighted the example of the Myrrh-bearing Women, describing them as symbols not only of Christian history but also of faith, courage, and devotion relevant to modern society.

A central theme of the message was the role of the family, which Patriarch Daniel described as a “space of love and responsibility” where moral values are formed. He underscored the importance of motherhood and fatherhood, as well as raising children in a spirit of faith and care for others.

“At a time when society is often presented with models far removed from Christian values, it is necessary to affirm the sanctity of marriage and solidarity within and among families,” the message stated.

The Patriarch also pointed to the challenges facing modern families, including poverty, migration, unemployment, addiction, and divorce. In response, he called on clergy and laypeople alike to support large families, single-parent households, and those experiencing hardship.

Special attention was given to the needs of the elderly, the sick, and those living alone. Believers were encouraged to offer not only material assistance but also emotional support and personal involvement.

Earlier, the Holy Synod of the Romanian Church declared 2026 a year dedicated to pastoral care for the Christian family and to the commemoration of holy women, recognizing their role in both Church and society.

The Easter message concluded with a traditional call to bring “hope, solidarity, and brotherly love” into the world, following the example of faith and service to others.
