On February 9, 2025, a blood donation campaign took place in Belgrade, organized by the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Serbian Blood Transfusion Institute. Serbian Patriarch Porfirije participated in the event, donating blood himself and encouraging the faithful to take part in the campaign, reports politika.rs.
Patriarch Porfirije emphasized the importance of blood donation, calling it an act of love and gratitude to God for all He gives. "Donating blood is a response to God's love and a confirmation of our love for our neighbor. It is entirely in accordance with the spirit of the Gospel and the faith of the Church," he said.
Bishop Petar of Toplica, coordinator of the Religious Charitable Fund, also joined the campaign, highlighting the importance of such humanitarian initiatives for strengthening spiritual and social bonds among believers and citizens.
According to Ivana Rodić from the Serbian Blood Transfusion Institute, this campaign has been held for several years and has become an important part of the country’s medical assistance. She stressed that blood reserves, especially of zero and A positive blood types, are critically important for maintaining stable medical supplies and urged everyone who can to participate in the donation.
The campaign took place in several churches in Belgrade, including the Church of Saint Sava on Vračar, the Church of Saint John Vladimir in Voždovac, the Church of Saint Simeon the Myrrh-streaming in New Belgrade, the Church of Saint Mark in Tašmajdan, and others.
