On September 23, 2026, in the Cathedral Hall of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia led the work of the Meeting of Hegumens and Abbesses of monasteries of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Before the meeting, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the lower Transfiguration Church of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior.
The participants of the meeting prayed during the Liturgy, and after the service they proceeded to the Hall of the Church Cathedrals.
In addition to the hegumens and abbesses of the monasteries, the bishops of several dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church took part in the meeting. 665 participants of the meeting from 177 dioceses were registered.
At the beginning of the meeting, Metropolitan Theognost of Kashira, on behalf of all those present, greeted His Holiness Patriarch Kirill and asked him to address the participants of the meeting.
The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church delivered a keynote address.
Then Metropolitan George of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas presented the report "The main directions of development of modern monasteries. Current issues".
""Metropolitan Vikenty of Tashkent and Uzbekistan presented a report on the topic "Current issues and the practical significance of the exchange of monastic experience with Egyptian Christians for the spiritual life of modern monasteries (on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the dialogue between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Coptic Church)".
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill thanked Vladyka Vincent for the report and noted the value of the Coptic Church's experience in organizing monastic life, stressing that direct assimilation of Egyptian traditions in Russia is not always possible due to differences in climate, geography and living conditions, but individual practices related, in particular, to asceticism, can be useful: "What I think that the moments connected with asceticism and the organization of monastic life, including those providing a certain solitude, could be useful for us as well."
"Every good example should be used, every bad example should be avoided. In this case, the example is undoubtedly good," the Primate added. 
His Holiness then answered the questions of those present.
At the end of the first part of the meeting, Metropolitan Theognost, on behalf of all those present, cordially thanked His Holiness for leading the assembly and for his constant fatherly attention to the needs of the monastics.
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill addressed the audience: "Thank you for your communication. May God help you, everyone in their place, and all of us together to serve the cause of God, regardless of any circumstances — neither those that we create ourselves, through our sinfulness, weakness, nor those circumstances that may sometimes have a negative impact on our church life from the outside. I urge you all, as the apostle said: stand fast, brothers, and hold fast to tradition, and learn it either by our word or by our epistle (see 2 Thess. 2:15). Amen to that."
Then a break was announced in the meeting, after which the Assembly of hegumens and abbesses of monasteries of the Russian Orthodox Church continued its work. 
After the discussion on the reports, the draft final document of the meeting was discussed.
