At the New Year's Eve service held at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia spoke about the impossibility of achieving true happiness without God. He stressed that the Church has a mission to make every person truly happy, regardless of external circumstances.
Patriarch Kirill called on the faithful in their prayers to ask for the protection of the country from enemies and for inner peace. "True happiness is determined by the state of the soul, not by material goods," he noted, adding that although the material conditions of life also have an impact, genuine happiness goes beyond them. If a person is forced to constantly take care of material well-being, it complicates the search for happiness. However, the patriarch emphasized that even in such conditions, happiness is possible, but it is impossible to achieve it without spiritual support.
He also pointed out the changeability of the mental state and the importance of caring for the inner world of each person. On the eve of the New Year, the Patriarch wished that the Lord would grant people strength and grace to strengthen their inner harmony. According to him, this is the main task of the Church — to unite people with eternal values of happiness, enduring and independent of external changes.
The New Year's prayer service is a special service of gratitude for the past year and asking for blessings for the coming year. According to tradition, on the evening of December 31, Patriarch Kirill conducts prayer singing for the New Year in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, uniting parishioners in prayer for themselves, their families and the country.
