On April 10, 2024, a working meeting of the Chairman of the Patriarchal Council for Culture, Metropolitan Tikhon of Simferopol and Crimea, with representatives of the museum community of Russia took place at the State Museum-Reserve "Tauride Chersonesos".
The event was attended by representatives of Russia's leading museums, the Department of Museums and External Relations of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, researchers, and archaeologists. The Governor of Sevastopol, the Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, representatives of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and the Foundation for the Support of the Humanities "My Story" were present.
The main topic of the meeting was the completion of the construction of the historical and archaeological park "Tauric Chersonesos", initiated by the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin, and the creation of the exposition of the first Museum of Christianity in Russia. The meeting participants discussed the formation of the exposition of the future historical and archaeological park, holding temporary exhibitions after the commissioning of the facility, as well as filling the exhibition space from state museums and private collections with original objects and copies of artifacts.
"Modern multimedia technologies will be combined with museum exhibits, so that visitors can learn about the history of Chersonesos and the whole country from the reign of Prince Vladimir and the Baptism of Rus to the present day," the public relations department of the Tauride Chersonesos Museum—Reserve noted.
As Metropolitan Tikhon clarified, one of the key spaces of the Museum of Christianity will be a hall telling about evangelical events. Currently, the option of creating digital copies of exhibits from the collections of the Tretyakov Gallery and the Russian Museum is being worked out.
A Museum of Antiquity and Byzantium is being created in the park. The building with an area of over 24 thousand square meters will become a new home for the expositions of the Tauride Chersonesos Museum-Reserve. According to the head of the institution, Elena Morozova, the exposition will be presented in ten halls, there will be spaces for temporary exhibitions. The new building will tell about the ancient, Byzantine and late Christian history of the ancient city. A "golden storeroom" will also appear in the new building, where the museum-reserve will be able to exhibit jewelry that was previously transferred to other cultural institutions.
Historical and Archaeological Park "Tauric Chersonesos" will become a large-scale cultural center of Sevastopol and the whole of Russia. Museums of Christianity, Antiquity and Byzantium, Crimea and Novorossiya will open here. Two youth centers will operate, a reconstruction quarter will appear with the placement of the "City of Masters", archaeological and tourist centers will be presented.
