Residents of Alchevsk in the Luhansk People's Republic have actively supported the restoration of the Holy Nicholas Cathedral, which celebrated its 215th anniversary in 2024. Since the beginning of the year, more than 5 million rubles have been raised for the renovation of the church, according to TASS. These funds have been used to replace windows and nearly complete the renovation of the building's facade, which began in the spring.

However, an additional 5 million rubles is still needed to complete all the restoration work, and fundraising efforts are ongoing. The Holy Nicholas Cathedral, built in 1809, is an architectural monument of the 19th century. Over time, the church has undergone significant changes, including the addition of two side chapels in 1899 and the construction of a large church complex in the early 20th century.

Following the revolution, the cathedral was looted and damaged. In the 1930s, the building was repurposed as a dairy plant. During the early days of World War II, when fierce battles raged near Debaltseve, the church became part of the frontline zone and served as a hospital. After the German occupation of Alchevsk in 1942, the church was reopened and has remained in use ever since. Restoration efforts began in 1989.

The renovation of the cathedral, which continues today with the joint efforts of parishioners and the local community, is a testament to the enduring faith and dedication of the people of Alchevsk.
