On July 8, the Pokrovsky Monastery in Korsakov consecrated the site for the construction of a new church in honor of St. Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia, the Wonderworker.
The rite of consecration was performed by the priestly archimandrite of the monastery, Archbishop Nikanor of Yuzhno—Sakhalinsk and Kuril Islands, co-served by the vicar Abbot Alexy (Andreev) and the monastery's brethren in holy orders.
Natalia Kuprina, Mayor of the Korsakov Municipal District, attended the service.
At the end of the rite, the archpastor congratulated all those present on the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity and on the laying of the new monastery church.
"Today, a stone was laid in the foundation of the future temple. May there always be a place in our hearts for the Lord to build His temple on," the archpastor noted in his speech.
